Miss Helen Preston died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Adams near Oakwood at 1 o’clock a.m. Monday Sept 3rd.

She was a distant relative of Mrs. Adams and had been in poor health for nearly two years and confined to her bed over six weeks with chronic difficulties.
Miss Preston was born in Flint, Genesee County July 2nd, 1846, and lived the first half of her life in that town surviving her family for over 30 years.  Her later years have been spent as companion for elderly ladies, one in Cleveland O (12 years) and for the past 17 years she has cared for one in Springfield, Mass. When her failing health compelled her to give up her work.

Thinking that a rest might be beneficial she came to Michigan in May, spent the summer with her cousin, Mrs. Adams, but disease had a fatal hold upon her and she steadily failed till her release came.

She was “so tired” but conscious till the last and she is at rest.  Jesus said; “I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believeth thou this?”  John 11:25,26.  “Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, (when He comes) but we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be changed” 1 Cor. 14-51, 52.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the house with burial in Oakwood cemetery conducted by C. O Whitcomb.
Both obituaries submitted by Bill Kemp (March 2007)
